Two slotted rulers and a charm pack to cut with them. That is the whole idea.

The problem this solves. Rotary cutting is slow in a way that is hard to see until you time it. You line the ruler up, cut, lift, shift, line up again, and somewhere in there the fabric creeps and the tenth strip is not the width of the first. Slotted rulers take the lifting out. The grooves hold the blade, so you cut several strips in one pass and each one lands where it should.

Why these three belong together. The 10" x 8" is the one you reach for constantly, small enough to live on the mat and sized for strip work. The 12.5" square is the one that squares up finished blocks and cuts the bigger shapes, the triangles and diamonds the small ruler cannot reach. And a slotted ruler is not much use without fabric to cut, so the Meadowlands charm pack comes with it: 56 pre-cut 5" squares in 14 coordinating FIGO Flourish prints, curated and cut here at The Fabric Hut. Charm squares are already cut, which makes them the easiest way to learn what the grooves do before you take the rulers to yardage.

One honest note. The grooves sit at fixed increments, so these rulers are fast at standard quilting widths and no help at all if you need an odd width.
