There is a lovely sense of lift and movement in this quilt, the kind of design that feels light and full of air, and it spreads generously right across a double bed. Parachute has a clean, modern character to it, with shapes that draw the eye gently from one side of the quilt to the other, and it makes a striking finish for a bed or a big sofa.
Parachute is built from nine rectangular blocks of varying sizes, and each block is pieced from strips two and a half inches wide sewn side by side. The blocks are then rotated against one another so the strip direction alternates as it moves across the quilt, and it is that shift in direction from one block to the next that gives the design its sense of movement.
