This quilt carries colour from edge to edge, with concentric rays radiating outward from a bright, lit centre. There is no background for the colour to rest against; the entire surface is worked in saturated strips that build ring upon ring of light, drawing the eye to the middle and then back out along every ray. It reads as one luminous burst rather than a field of separate pieces.
Here is why this one is worth making:
- The whole top is built from four strip sets. Rather than assembling dozens of separate units, you sew four long strip sets and the entire quilt is drawn from those, keeping your seams long and your piecing efficient.
- The rays come from the cutting, not the piecing. Each sewn set is cut from corner to centre into triangles, and reassembling those triangles is what forms the radiating rays, so the visual complexity comes from your cutting and placement rather than from intricate piecing.
- A generous 70 inches square. The finished quilt is ample for a sofa throw or a bed cover, and holds real presence on the wall if you choose to hang it.
