If you love a quilt block with a bit of personality, this is going to make you smile from the very first second. In her latest tutorial Wendy from Sew Wendyful walks through an improv house block using freezer paper as her stitching guide, and the little houses she builds are charmingly wonky in the best possible way.
Here is why this one is worth watching:
- A clever twist on foundation piecing. Wendy traces her pattern onto freezer paper, irons it straight onto the fabric, and uses that as her guide before peeling it off, which is wonderfully neat and skips the traditional paper-tearing fuss.
- Step by step house construction. The block is broken into four tidy sections (roof, walls and window, door and garden, grass and path), and Wendy talks through each one calmly, so you can see exactly how the little house comes together.
- Permission to play with fabric. Because the whole approach is improv, every house turns out unique, which makes this a really sweet way to dive into your scraps and let your favourite prints take centre stage.
Have you tried piecing with freezer paper before, or is this a technique you have been curious about? We would love to hear in the comments what kind of little house you would build first.
