If you have a basket of scraps you have been waiting to play with, this one is going to be a treat. In her latest tutorial Jackie from JunkGal63 Studio shares Block 15 of her Quirky Quilt Series, called Faithful Crossing, a wonderfully chunky improv block that looks like it has been hand-stitched but comes together entirely on the sewing machine.
Here is why this one is worth watching:
- That gorgeous big-stitch handmade look. The block has the cosy, characterful feel of slow hand stitching, but Jackie walks through how to capture it with simple machine stitching, so you get the look without the time.
- A friendly way into improv. Faithful Crossing is built from scraps in a relaxed, improvisational style, with free templates available to keep you on track, which makes it a sweet first step if you have been curious about improv quilting.
- A wonderful scrap buster. Every block uses small odds and ends, so it is a beautiful project for clearing out the bits and pieces from your favourite past makes and giving them a new life together.
Have you tried improv quilting before, or is this the kind of relaxed, scrap-friendly project that would tempt you in? We would love to hear in the comments which scraps you think you would reach for first.
