Designing a Unique Quilt Block From 1.5" Strips, No Pattern Needed

Designing a Unique Quilt Block From 1.5" Strips, No Pattern Needed

If you have ever stared at a stack of skinny strips and thought "I want to do something fun with these but I have no idea where to start", today's video is going to feel like a gentle little nudge of inspiration. Cathy from Sweet Country Living In Michigan walks us through how she designs her own unique quilt block from scratch using simple 1.5" strips, no pattern in sight, just curiosity and a willingness to play.

Here is why this one is worth watching:

  • A real look at design as it happens. Cathy thinks out loud as she goes, so you get to watch the decisions being made rather than just the finished result, which is so much more useful when you want to try it yourself.
  • A wonderful use for those skinny 1.5" strips. If you have a jar of leftover strips you never quite know what to do with, this video gives them a beautiful new purpose and shows just how much character they can bring to a block.
  • Permission to play without a pattern. Sometimes the most freeing thing in quilting is realising you do not always need a printed pattern in front of you, and watching someone design as they sew makes the whole idea feel approachable.

Have you ever designed a quilt block of your own, no pattern, just playing with strips and seeing where they take you? Tell us in the comments, we would love to hear how you keep your skinny strips happy and busy.
