How to Make Biased Binding For Your Quilt by Ashley Sunny Made

How to Make Biased Binding For Your Quilt

Binding is the little finishing touch that frames a whole quilt, and bias binding takes that frame from lovely to truly polished. In this video, Ashley from Sunny Made walks through how to cut and join bias binding step by step, so you end up with that smooth, slightly stretchy edge that hugs corners and curves like a dream.

Here is why this one is worth watching:

  • The cutting method is wonderfully clear. Ashley shows exactly how to fold and slice your fabric on the bias, which is the trickiest bit for most quilters, and she does it without any fancy rulers or maths.
  • It opens up curved and scalloped quilts. Straight grain binding fights you on a curve, but bias binding bends around them happily, so this is a brilliant skill to have if you have been eyeing a scalloped or hexagon edge.
  • The joining step is demystified. Diagonal seams on long strips can feel fiddly the first time, but Ashley breaks it down so you finish with one long, neat strip ready to bind your quilt.

Have you tried bias binding before, or do you usually stick with straight grain? Tell us in the comments which quilt you might bind this way next.
