The difference between side triangles and corner triangles for setting a quilt on point

Side Triangles or Corner Triangles? Setting a Quilt on Point

Setting a quilt on point gives blocks such a lovely, dynamic tilt, but those triangles around the edges are where many of us start to feel unsure. Which ones fill the sides, which ones fill the corners, and why are they cut differently? In this tutorial from our Fabric Hut channel, Yvonne walks you through the difference between side triangles and corner triangles, so the whole thing finally clicks into place.

Here is why this one is worth watching:

  • It clears up a common muddle. Side and corner triangles look similar but are cut in different ways, and Yvonne explains exactly why, so you know which is which every time.
  • It is all about the grain. The reason they are cut differently comes down to keeping the outside edges of your quilt on the straight of grain, and understanding that saves you a wavy, stretchy border.
  • It applies to any on point quilt. Once you understand these two triangles, you can set any block on point with confidence, from a single medallion to a whole quilt full of them.

If you have not already, subscribing to our channel means you will catch every one of Yvonne's tips as soon as it lands. Have you set a quilt on point before, or is it next on your list to try? I would love to hear how you get on.
