Series of Stripes mini quilt with diagonal multicoloured stripes meeting at mitred angles

Series of Stripes Free Quilt Pattern

Series of Stripes brings together four small quilts, each one carrying diagonal lines of colour that sweep across the surface and turn back on themselves. Worked in a happy mix of blues, purples, corals and soft mint, the stripes fold around one another like ribbons, giving each piece a bright, graphic energy that feels thoroughly modern.

At just 24" x 24", each one is a lovely, manageable size, and because it comes as a series you can make one as a striking mini quilt for the wall, or stitch up several and let them play off one another. Three of the four quilts are built entirely from straight strips sewn into columns, with each strip slid along from the one beside it by the same amount all the way down. The diagonal is created by that repeated offset and revealed when the column is trimmed to width, so nothing is ever sewn on the bias.

Here is why this one is worth making:

  • A bold, graphic design. The lines climb, turn and answer one another across the surface, so a piece built entirely from straight strips reads as anything but static on the wall.
  • A size that invites repetition. At 24" x 24", one makes a striking wall piece and four hung together let the different arrangements of the same two fabrics answer one another.
  • A playful way to explore colour. With stripes in so many shades, it is a delight to arrange your palette and watch the colours flow into one another across the diagonal.
