There is something so tender about turning a treasured memory into something you can hold and hang on the wall. In this video from The Collie Crafter, she makes a little mini quilt to remember a day hike on the Appalachian Trail, a walk she had dreamed of for more than twenty years. Home again and wanting to hold onto the feeling, she gathered selvedges and leftover pieces from her stash and stitched them into a keepsake for her sewing space.
Here is why this one is worth watching:
- A heartfelt little memory keeper. Rather than a grand project, she makes a small six and a half inch hiker sign mini quilt, a lovely reminder of a day on the trail that she can hang up and enjoy every single day.
- Selvedges and leftover pieces put to good use. She sews with the selvedge edges and odds and ends from her stash, even winning over a fabric she had rather regretted buying, a joyful way to use up every last bit.
- Straight line and free motion quilting on a vintage machine. She puts her vintage Singer 401A through its paces, taking you through both straight line and free motion quilting from start to finish.
Have you ever turned a special memory, a trip or a walk you treasure, into something you stitched by hand? I would love to hear about your own keepsakes in the comments.
