Morning Star Free Quilt Pattern

Morning Star Free Quilt Pattern

There is something so cheerful about a star quilt, and Morning Star has all the warmth of its name. It is a sweet 41.5" x 49" design, just right for a wall hanging, a baby quilt or a bright table topper, built around a glowing single star surrounded by a soft, calm background. The kind of quilt that lifts a corner of a room the moment you hang it up.

The pattern leans on cotton solids, with the star itself sewn from a handful of joyful colours and the background kept gentle and neutral so the star really gets to shine. Most of the colours only need a small amount of fabric, which makes it a brilliant way to use up bits and pieces you already have from your stash.

  • A sweet, small-but-bright finish. At 41.5" x 49", Morning Star is a lovely size for a baby quilt, a wall hanging or a cosy lap throw, and it gives a lot of impact for the time it takes.
  • Mostly small amounts of fabric. The star uses generous fat-eighth sized pieces in each colour, so a tidy little selection of solids is enough to bring the whole design to life.
  • A wonderful palette playground. The original is a joyful mix of pinks, greens, peaches and pool blues, but the same star would be just as pretty in soft pastels, deep moody jewels or a rainbow scrappy mix.

Finished quilt size: 41.5" x 49"

Tip: before you print the pattern, set your printer to "no scaling" or "actual size" so the measurements come out true. Pressing your seams as you go really helps a star block come together with sharp, crisp points.
