Changing a 45mm rotary cutter blade safely and wiping off the packing oil

How to Change a Rotary Blade Safely (and Avoid the Two-Blade Mistake)

Changing a rotary blade sounds like the simplest thing in the world, until a fresh one gives you jagged, skippy cuts and you cannot work out why. In our latest video over on our channel, we walk you through how to get a new blade out of the pack, wipe off that packing oil, and swap it in safely, with one little tip that saves so much frustration.

Here is why this one is worth watching:

  • Sit down and stay in control. You are handling something very sharp, and being seated gives you far more control than doing it standing at the counter.
  • Avoid the two-blade trap. New blades can stick together with the packing oil, so you accidentally fit two at once, and that is what causes those jagged cuts. Sliding one gently off the centre lets you check you have only picked up a single blade.
  • Wipe the oil the easy way. A gentle rub around the centre pivot lifts the oil off quickly, and a stylus, tweezers or even the end of a pen makes it easy to flip and move the blade while your fingers stay safely clear.

Ready for a fresh, clean edge? Keep a pack on hand with our 45mm titanium coated rotary blades, they hold a sharp edge beautifully and are the very ones we reach for. We would love to know how you get on!
