Choosing a quilting design shouldn't be the hardest part of finishing a quilt. But for most of us, it is. We spend weeks on the piecing, pick the perfect backing, baste everything together, and then stare at the quilt sandwich wondering what pattern to stitch across it.
Corey Yoder from Coriander Quilts has sent hundreds of quilt tops to longarm quilters, and in this video she shares the designs she keeps returning to. Here's what stood out:
- Simple designs often win. The quilting pattern that looks best in person isn't always the one that photographs well. Corey picks designs that let the fabric do the talking, not compete with it.
- Match the quilting to the purpose. A quilt that's going on a bed needs a different density than one that's hanging on a wall. She breaks down how she decides.
- You don't need dozens of designs. Five or six reliable go-to patterns can cover almost any quilt. Corey shares exactly which ones she reaches for again and again.
