Steam your seam, then press the clapper down firmly and hold for a few seconds. The dense beechwood draws the heat and moisture straight out of the fibers and sets the seam as it cools, so it lies flatter, sharper and more obediently than an iron manages on its own. It also tames bulky intersections and thick binding without scorch or shine.

I resisted a clapper for years, sure my iron was doing the job.
