Two solid beechwood tailor's clappers, a 9 inch and a 6 inch, for setting seams flat after you press them. Both come in a burgundy velvet pouch.

Why quilters use a clapper

Steam your seam, then press the clapper down firmly and hold it for a few seconds. The wood takes the heat and moisture out of the fabric and the seam sets as it cools, so it lies flatter than it does with the iron alone. It helps most on bulky intersections and thick binding, where pressing harder with the iron tends to leave shine.

Good to know

A clapper works with your iron, not instead of it. It needs fabric that is still warm and damp from the steam. On a dry seam it does very little.

I resisted a clapper for years, sure my iron was doing the job. The first time I pressed one over a fussy eight-point star the difference was almost funny: the points lay flat and the whole block looked like someone more patient had made it.
