You already own a good rotary cutter. That is not the problem.

The problem is the blade that came in the box. The biggest names in rotary cutters do not put their best steel on the blade they ship you, and they have no reason to. The cutter is sold once. The blades are what you come back and buy again, and again, at a price that has very little to do with what they cost to make.

We got tired of paying it. We were quilters buying our own blades at those prices, watching an edge go dull halfway through a project, and reaching for the wallet again. So we stopped buying them and started making our own.

Why 28mm

The 28mm is the blade for the cuts the big wheel cannot make. Curves. Applique shapes. Tight inside corners. Trimming close to a seam without taking the seam with it.

A smaller wheel turns inside a tighter radius, so it follows the line you are actually cutting instead of fighting you and running wide. It is the difference between cutting a gentle arc and cutting the shape you drew.

And because the wheel meets the fabric over a shorter contact patch, a dull 28mm shows itself faster than any other size. The blade stops cutting and starts pushing the fabric ahead of it, and on a curve that is exactly where the shape goes wrong. Which is the whole argument for keeping sharp ones within reach.

What quilters cut with our blades

We did not run these tests. Quilters did, on their own channels, with their own fabric.

Mary B lined up three blades on the same cotton and kept adding layers. The cheap blade gave up at four. A brand new name-brand blade reached twelve, but she had to lean on it. Ours went through the same twelve, in her words, easily. Mary Go Round Quilts cut ten layers in one pass and said it went through like butter. Jackie Loos took eight layers of cotton, then three of batting, then three of denim, and said she barely used any pressure.

Those tests were on the 45mm. The 28mm is the same steel and the same coating, on a smaller wheel, for the work the bigger sizes cannot reach.

Why the edge holds

Every blade is titanium coated SKS-7 tungsten steel. The coating is harder than the steel underneath and it cuts friction at the edge, so the edge keeps its shape long after an uncoated blade has rounded off. That is why these blades last far longer than regular blades. It is not a slogan. It is what the coating does.

Less force, and who feels that most

A dull blade makes you push. On detail work that is worse, because the hand that is pressing is also the hand that is steering. By the end of a session of applique your fingers and your wrist know exactly what you have been doing.

If you quilt with arthritis or fibromyalgia, that force is not just tiring. It is often what decides whether you finish the session or put the project away for another day. A sharp edge does the cutting so your hands do not have to.

Why ten of them

Think about when you actually notice a blade has gone dull. You are halfway through a curve, the cut skips, and you go back over it. You know exactly what is wrong. And you carry on anyway, because the spare blade is not in the drawer, it is four days away in a delivery van.

That is how most of a quilter's cutting gets done: on a blade she already knows is finished.

Ten blades ends that. You change it the moment it starts to skip, because there is another one right there, and the one after that. Ten also brings the price per blade down to a number the big brands cannot come near.

  • Made for curves and detail. The 28mm turns inside a tighter radius than any other size, which is what applique, curved piecing and close trimming need.
  • Less force on your hands. The edge does the cutting, so your grip does not have to.
  • Titanium coated SKS-7 tungsten steel. A harder cutting edge that resists corrosion and holds its shape through project after project.
  • Ten blades in one box. A sharp edge is always within arm's reach, so you change the blade when it needs changing instead of when it is convenient.
  • Fits the cutter you already own. Standard 28mm blade with a round centre hole, no adapters and no fiddling.
  • 60 day satisfaction guarantee. Cut with them for two months. If you find a blade that beats ours, tell us and we refund you in full. Keep the blades.
