Sunday Best is the cotton we reach for when the quilt is going to be kept. It is denser and heavier than our Everyday line, closely woven, and it takes a crease and holds a quarter inch seam the way quilting cotton should. This one arrives as a single 5 yard cut, 180 inches long, ready to cut into from wherever you like.
About this navy
Nightwood is the darkest print in the collection and the one that does the anchoring. The ground is a deep navy, near enough to black across a room. Over it stands a whole wood: pines and birches and round headed trees in sage, olive, ochre and pale grey blue, with foxes running between them and squirrels in the branches.
The animals are the reason people pick it up, and they are also the reason to think about scale before you cut. The trees stand several inches tall. At full width the print tells a story. Cut into two inch squares it stops being a wood and becomes a mottled navy texture, flecked with colour. Both are good. They are just not the same fabric, so decide which one you want before the rotary cutter comes out.
Where this print works
Cut large, it is a panel, a backing, a tote, a cushion front, or the outer border that frames everything inside it. Cut small, it is the dark value in a pieced quilt, and a very forgiving one, because a print this busy hides a seam that runs a thread wide.
It is the dark end of this collection. Put Understory in the middle and Meadowsweet at the light end and you have the three steps a chain quilt needs.

Good to know
44 inches is the standard width for quilting cotton, which is what this is. It is not wide backing. If you are backing a quilt more than about 42 inches across, you will need a seam down the middle or a piece of 108 inch wide backing.
Buy two or more cuts and the quantity discount comes off on its own at checkout. Two cuts take 10% off, four take 15%, six take 20%.
