Two collections that argue politely
Patchwork Carnival is the loud one. Gingham checks, candy stripes, stars and polka dots in red, pink, blue, green, purple and yellow, with small ditsy florals between them, and no two of the forty alike. Morning Mist is the quiet one. Twenty prints in mossy greens, soft beiges and faded blues, the kind of fabric that holds a quilt together instead of shouting across it.
Set side by side, neither one wins. That is the whole reason they are in the same box. Put the Carnival squares on one square of a checkerboard and the Mist squares on the other and the quilt reads as a pattern rather than as a pile of pretty fabric, because the eye has somewhere to rest between every loud square.
Counted for one quilt, with the binding included
This bundle is the fabric for Juniper, our free charm square checkerboard pattern. The throw finishes at 58 1/2 x 72in and takes 104 squares from each collection, which leaves 16 of each over. The 40 mini strips cover the 36 the binding needs, joined end to end at 45 degrees, so there is nothing else to buy and nothing to cut for the top.
Juniper is free to download, print and teach, and it comes in five sizes. The pattern tells you how many packs each of the other four takes.
One note before you plan around them. The strips are short 10" cuts, not full width-of-fabric jelly roll strips. That shorter cut is what keeps the price where it is, and it suits binding, blocks and strip patchwork rather than long borders.
