Crossroads Free Quilt Pattern

Crossroads Free Quilt Pattern

There is something so satisfying about a quilt whose name lives right inside the design, and Crossroads is exactly that kind of project. It is a generous 61" x 78" throw built around little intersecting paths of colour set against a deep, moody indigo background, the kind of finished piece that draws you in from across the room and then keeps revealing itself the closer you look.

The pattern leans on one rich background fabric and a thoughtful little gathering of accent colours, which makes it a brilliant excuse to play with a curated palette of fat quarters or generous scraps. The accents only ask for a quarter yard of each, so the colour decisions feel more like flower arranging than fabric maths.

  • A truly cosy throw size. At 61" x 78", Crossroads is large enough to wrap up on the sofa or layer at the foot of a bed, without ever feeling like a giant project to finish.
  • A moody, modern look. The deep indigo background gives the whole quilt a quiet, grounded feel that lets every accent colour glow against it, almost like little windows of light.
  • A gentle masterclass in colour planning. With one calm background and a handful of richer accent shades, it is a lovely chance to play with how a palette comes together without committing to dozens of different fabrics.

Finished quilt size: 61" x 78"
Techniques: Straight piecing, intersecting paths layout, traditional construction

Tip: before you print the pattern, set your printer to "no scaling" or "actual size" so the measurements come out true. With so much background fabric in this design, give your indigo a careful press before cutting, that single step makes the whole top sit beautifully flat.

If you would love to gather a thoughtful palette for your Crossroads accent colours, have a peek at our fat quarters collection, hand-picked little pieces that are just the right size for the quarter yard accents in this design. We would love to see how yours comes together!

Happy quilting!
