Felted wool does something a padded ironing board cannot. The fibers hold heat and push it back up through the fabric, so the iron presses from both sides at once. Seams open flatter, blocks come out squarer, and you get there in fewer passes, usually without steam or spray starch.

Care and use

Always place the mat on a heat resistant surface, never directly on a finished or laminated tabletop. Use a dry iron for most work, since wool holds enough heat on its own. Spot clean only, and let the mat air dry flat. Wool has a natural scent that fades over the first few uses.
