Blanket stitch appliqué around points, curves and inside corners

Blanket Stitch Appliqué: Points, Curves and Inside Corners

Blanket stitch appliqué is one of those techniques that looks so tidy and considered once you know how to guide it around every edge. In this tutorial over on our Fabric Hut channel, Yvonne walks you through fused blanket stitch appliqué from start to finish, and it is the very first video in our brand new appliqué series.

Here is why this one is worth watching:

  • Setting up for a tidy stitch. Yvonne takes you through the fusible web, the tracing tools, the right appliqué foot and the machine settings that make your blanket stitch sit neat and even, so you are set up well before you ever start stitching.
  • Mastering points, curves and inside corners. She works through the four moments that catch people out, straight edges, sharp points, gentle curves and those tricky inside corners, showing exactly how to pivot and guide the fabric through each one.
  • The start of a whole new series. This is the opening video in our new appliqué series, so it is a lovely place to begin, with plenty more to come as the series unfolds.

Fancy trying some appliqué? Our charm packs are a lovely place to start, those little five inch squares are just the right size for cutting out simple appliqué shapes in a whole range of colours. We would love to see what you make!

Which part of blanket stitch appliqué do you find most satisfying, or which corner still catches you out? Tell us in the comments. And if you have not already, subscribing to our channel means you will catch every video in the appliqué series as soon as it lands.
