How the four work together
The cutter comes with a removable TrueCut® guide. It locks into the raised track that runs along both sides of the ruler, so the blade follows the edge instead of wandering off it. The TrueGrips go on the underside of the ruler and stop it from sliding under your hand halfway down a long cut. With a sharp blade you never have to lean on any of it. Prefer the rulers you already own? Take the guide off and the cutter works like any rotary cutter, and the grips stick to those rulers too.
The cutter, and why this one is different
The 28mm My Comfort Ergo Cutter is built around the Comfort Curve Grip. Instead of a straight handle that asks your wrist to bend, the curve lines up wrist, arm and shoulder so the cutting force sits directly over the blade. Less strain per cut, and small detailed cutting is exactly where a tired wrist shows.
The 28mm is the small wheel, for curves, appliqué shapes and detailed cutting. A smaller wheel turns inside a tighter radius, so it follows the line you drew instead of running wide. There is an easy-to-use blade guard for when it goes back in the drawer, and the cutter works for right or left handed use.
One detail that has nothing to do with cutting and that people like anyway: the handle takes customizable inserts, so you can put a scrap of your favorite fabric or a photo behind the panel.
The blades, the part that wears out
A dull 28mm shows itself faster than any other size. The wheel meets the fabric over a short contact patch, so when the edge goes it stops cutting and starts pushing the fabric ahead of it, and on a curve that is exactly where the shape goes wrong. That is the whole argument for keeping sharp ones within reach.
Every blade is titanium coated SKS-7 tungsten steel. The coating is harder than the steel underneath and it cuts friction at the edge, so the edge holds its shape long after an uncoated blade has rounded off. That is why these blades last far longer than regular blades. It is not a slogan. It is what the coating does.

The ruler
Nine and a half inches square. Big enough to square up most popular block sizes, small enough to move around the mat without knocking everything else off it. Use it for squaring blocks, trimming half-square triangles and checking a pieced section before it goes into the quilt. The grid reads in eighth-inch increments with the quarter and three-quarter marks labeled, and marking holes let you mark the fabric through the ruler without moving it. It is injection-molded rather than standard acrylic, so the edges resist chipping through years of cutting.
The TrueGrips
Small clear rings that stick to the underside of a ruler. They hold it where you put it without marking the fabric or the mat, and they are thin and clear enough that you forget they are there: the ruler sits flat and the markings stay readable. The pack has more than one size, so there are enough left over for the rulers you already own.
